“Please, Won’t You Be My Neighbor”

This world of social media, texting, emojis, newsreels, sales pitches, e-everything, has placed humans into individual bubbles. Such a lonely place.

“!!!!!” can express great joy and elation, “I’m going to rip your face off,” “This is urgent,” or a million other nuances that cannot succinctly be denoted in writing.

So much is lost by the lack of in-person interaction.

People actually communicate best when nothing is said. Looking someone in the eyes will communicate more than any amount of punctuation marks or emojis could possibly convey.

A hug can say more than an entire orchestra blasting in the background.

If we lose our ability to communicate with each other in person, we lose the ability to heal ourselves and our world.

Get the earbuds out of your head and listen to the sound of your world. Say something to the people in your community. Learn about your neighbors. See the people checking out your purchases, bringing your food to the table. Re-enter the human race…see others as your own self. We are all in it together. Do it in person.

Be kind, be gracious, be respectful and humble. See the person you are communicating with, look them in the eye so they feel acknowledged.

Be the change you want to see in others. Walk your walk, talk your talk. Put your cell phone away and stretch the ability of your heart and mind to store what matters.

Live real!
